Children Love Keeping Chickens

A lot of children love animals, and it’s more likely than not that you’ve heard cries of ‘can we get one’ more times than you can count. Chickens are a great solution to this problem. They can help teach children about caring for other creatures, they don’t need as much maintenance as pets such as dogs, and they give so much back to their owners. If you’re particularly green-fingered, chickens can be a lot of help in the garden, and if you’re a bit of a whizz in the kitchen, having freshly-laid eggs can help take your recipes to the next level.

Chickens are a great way to teach kids about animals, whilst still being a productive pet for all the family

Whilst older children can take on a lot of the care of chickens themselves, it’s the adults of the household that have the ultimate responsibility for the animal’s care. As a pet species, chickens aren’t particularly demanding, but they do have some daily care requirements that need to be met. If you’re new to chicken keeping and want some advice on the basics, then have a look at our Chicken Care section.
